US, Canada on Collision Course

The US Men's Hockey team and Canada are on a collision course in Olympic Hockey. Both teams are 2-0 headed into Sunday's matchup in Vancouver. The US has had some battles with the Canuck nationals in the past and this year's game could be another war.

USA beat Switzerland in their first game out. Winning 3-1 on goals by Bobby Ryan, David Backes, and Ryan Malone.

“We scored three goals without a name like [Zach] Parise or [Patrick] Kane or some of the big guns that we’re counting on during the tournament,” Backes told USA Hockey Magazine.

The US handled Norway easily, winning 6-1 with goals from Patrick Kane, two from Malone and another from Brian Rafalski.

"I thought we played real well in the first period and were able to dominate the game," said Ron Wilson, Team USA head coach. "We lost our focus a little but the players really found their game in the last 10 minutes of the third. We'll have to play with that focus we showed late against Norway to be successful against Canada."

Goaltender Ryan Miller played exceptional in both games and also became the first Olympic goaltender to tally an assist. In the third period Malone scored off the feed from Miller to Jack Johnson.

Canada squeaked by Switzerland on Thursday with a 3-2 overtime win.  The US's biggest win over the Canadians came in 1996 at the World Cup when Head Coach Ron Wilson led USA to a Gold Medal.
