US Soccer wins in Honduras to Qualify for World Cup

kid Conor Casey scored his first two international goals to help lead the United States MNT to a big win over Honduras, who is 8-0 at home in WC Qualifiers, to earn a World Cup berth. With a 3-2 win over Honduras, the MNT has locked a spot in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Conor Casey scored two goals in the second half, his first in international play.

Regarding his first goal Casey said: “On the first one, the ball was played in to Charlie and I kind of speculated that he would be heading it back in my direction, so I went up the goalie challenged for it. I don’t know if I got my head on it or what, but somehow it went in the direction of the goal and in."

“On the second one, I think we just broke and Landon slipped me a nice ball, and I was alone on goal and slotted it in the corner," Casey said.

Landon Donovan put another in the net on a free kick to make it 3-1. Honduras scored its second goal on the day when Julio Cesar de Leon put his second goal past the US Keeper Tim Howard. Honduras' Carlos Pavon had a chance to tie it after a handball in the penalty box by US defender Jonathon Specter. He hammered over the net securing the win for the US.

“This was the most important game in qualifying because it was the one that qualified us for South Africa 2010. The celebration was a very good one because when you have a group that has come together, that has worked hard, that has grown, when they’ve accomplished something it’s a special feeling. Tonight we can all share that feeling," Coach Bob Bradley said.

Other teams that are also qualified for the World Cup in South Africa include Mexico, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Australia, Kora Republic, Japan, Korea DPR, England, Serbia, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Brazil, Paraguay and Chile.
